Ionian Mode

There is a difference between writing a song that uses a major chord or key and writing a song that is in Ionian Mode, that is, either vamping over an Ionian chord for a long period of time or sequencing Ionian chords. There aren't really that many Jazz Tunes written in Ionian Mode, this sound is more reserved for fanfares and film scores. Rick Beato has a great video about this below:
